"Underneath the Live Oaks" Sees Light of Day!
Like I say in the book, once you start writing poetry it becomes addictive! You start seeing the world and people around you in beats, measures, and rhyme schemes. You keep on thinking up (what you think of) as clever language. And then you go further: you set it down on paper and try to see all over again what inspired the poem in the first place. Then you hope and pray that those who read the poems will see and experience what you did.
Book Five of my Collected Poems For Various Occasions is now out, and I'll have to say I am rather proud of it! This is book number 37 of mine, but who's counting, right? Probably no one but me. And only when I have to answer the question, "How many have you written?" My favorite poems in this book are the nature poems and those on general Christian subjects. As usual I poke fun at preachers and at my own Christian faith (why not? I'm a preacher, I've seen many funny things about us. We and our congregations are suckers for caricature, for one thing). On the other hand there's plenty of serious stuff here (laugh and cry at the long poem about Jonah, and fall in love with love all over again!). But I remind you: these, like all poetry are best read out loud! So get your copy here and enjoy (Kindle edition available too as always): https://www.amazon.com/Underneath-Live-Oaks-Collected-Occasions/dp/B086FXKGFL/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Underneath+the+Live+Oaks+Paul+Du&qid=1585849408&s=books&sr=1-2
