"THE HAPPY HARPER" Becomes Newest Melody!
If you've read any of my books-and by now a good many of you have, and thank you-then you know that I like stories where the main character gets into some kind of trouble. But then with miraculous help, or seemingly so, he or she gets out of trouble and restores the goodness that was before. It isn't original to me, but a common theme. I especially like stories that come from real history. And because I'm a Christian I especially like real life Christian stories.
I first found the Middle English poem about Sir Orfeo about a year ago while reading through an on-line collection of J. R. R. Tolkien's poems. Since the poem is itself fantasy literature, which I like, I made a mental note to transform that old poem into a fantasy narrative. This was a lot more work than I thought it would be, but this book (number 38) is the result.
Here's the plot: Sir Orfeo was a medieval petty king who ruled from the city of Winchester, England. He had a beautiful, talented wife, and he was gloriously content. One day when he was away on a hunting trip his wife, Heurodis, was visited by a wicked wizard and told to prepare to leave with him the very next day. Orfeo found there was nothing he could do to prevent her kidnapping! He then resolved to go on the long journey of finding her and getting her back. Orfeo had no idea how long this would take or what adventures he would have along the way. But with his trusty harp, he and his partner, the knight Sir Merek Guilder, endured until at last they finally found where Heurodis had been taken. But rescuing her? That's where it got very sticky . . . . Purchase also with amazon's Kindle department. It's cheap either way!
